Michigan Archers Association
Shooter of the Year 2011
Awarded to Father & Son

Archery, a sport featuring various targets and distances ranging from 20 feet to 80 yards, is shot indoor and outdoor all over the state.  The 7 state tournaments, keeps shooters active year round.  Sam Conklin Sr. (right) shoots “Senior Male Freestyle Limited” and son Sam Conklin II (left) shoots “Adult Male Freestyle” both have received more points in their shooting class than any other Michigan archer.  Archery is a common bond that is enjoyed by both and keeps the family close even though they live more than 75 miles apart.  Sam Sr., an archer for more than 35 years, has been “Shooter of the Year” for the past 4 years.  Sam II, started shooting at the age of 5 and shot until age 20.  When life got in the way he stopped but in December 2010 at age 37, he  picked up his bow again.  Within weeks he was winning again.  Father and son both became “Shooter of the Year” in 2011.
